Designer/Collection Concept

   My collection is entitled Blaque. The spelling is a funky twist on who I am and what I am creating. My collection is all black which is a color I wear and use a lot as a designer, artist and creator. I believe that the color black is timeless, classic and forever chic. In my eyes, it is a color that never goes out of season, nor style. I have also chosen the title because it simply expresses what I am and who I am; a Black female designer. I have branded myself with the name, and it has become so much a part of my everyday lifestyle that people view this color and then associate it with me. I am one of few black designers in the fashion and apparel industry, and I want my designs and who I am to be the first thing people think of when they hear or see the word Blaque. 

            My collection is red carpet inspired. I’m designing an edgy version of typical evening wear. It is very monochromatic with just a little pop of red that will be used as the accent color. The textures that I am going for in this collection are velvet, mesh, and netting. The texture and color of my garments is what will make my collection of evening wear unique. My overall goal is to mix street edge and elegance together to create a cohesive line. As a monochromatic designer, my focus is never on the creativity in the colors or patterns in garments. What is important to me is texture, the flow of the garment, and the way each piece fits the body. Creating looks that can be edgy, elegant and sophisticated all in one, is my main focus for this collection.
